How does gonorrhea contribute to pelvic inflammatory disease?

By inflammation: The gonococcus can invade the upper reproductive tract and the resultant response of the immune system inflames the tissue causing edema and potential abscess formation.

By scarring...: First, gonorrhea is a pelic inflammatory disease. It wreaks havoc by moving up the fallopian tubes, causing scarring, and perhaps infertility. Gc can actually enter the abdomen and be life threatening. Also, chlamydia is co-transmitted 75% of the time. It can also scar the tubes. It can also cause arthritis. Antibiotic coverage should be aimed at treating both!
