Yes it works, but: Whether it is worth the money depends on many things. For alcohol abuse, the results have been extremely good, with marked reductions in relapse, and much longer periods of sobriety, even in the homeless alcoholic population. For opioids, it's not as clear, but several russian studies showed success, and us studies are beginning to show some promise. It does have side effects (depression), + cost.
