Highly variable: It may or may not go away, and in some cases it will continue and get worse. If this happens, switching to another medication is usually done. There are many medications that may reduce the akathesia, such as akineton, biperidin or benadryl (diphenhydramine). Recently Gabitril was effective in one study. There are generally similar medications to risperdol which may have lower incidence of akasthesia and be tried.
