Varies: The two most common causes are an overuse of the left extremity causing a subscapular bursitis, that often causes pain just to the side of the scapula. Another common cause is an irritation of a thoracic nerve in the middle back. In either case, rest and possible use of an antiinflammatory is a good start, consider being seen if it does not improve.
