Mind over matter: In humans, and to some extent in other mammals) our brains often tell us to do things that our body knows are bad. One of the problems with evolution! (An amoeba doesn't eat food when it is not hungry or it is not useful for fuel). Learned behaviors, desires and wishes can overcome "instinct." Be sure that anorexia does not have a physical cause, before deciding it's purely psychiatric.
