Stay out of the sun: During pregnancy your body excretes something called melanocyte stimulating hormone (among many other hormones) which causes darkening of the skin. There is nothing you can do to prevent this, but you can minimize is effect by staying out of the sun, or applying a good broad-spectrum sunscreen lotion (spf ~50) every day.
