No: Once pain starts, it's not normal. You could have a number of things, including a meniscus injury which can cause some referred pain to the upper leg. It could be a couple other things too, like snapping hip syndrome, tight it band, hamstring tightness or quad weakness. Recommend seeing a sports doc for physical exam and treatment plan.
