Could be normal: Not every menstrual cycle is exactly the same. Some have a slow start with some spotting before the bleeding comes. Birth control pill users sometimes only get spotting, no bleeding. If it doesn't normalize within a couple of days, i would check a pregnancy test, just to be safe.
