Past surgeries: The primary risk factor is past surgeries, such as gastrectomy, gastric bypass, esophagectomy and sometimes cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). More rarely are tumors of the pancreas associated with high gastrin levels or connective tissue disorders of the gut.
