Lung lining cells: The larger bronchiole tubes and upper system are lined with cells with little, moving hairs called cilia, which constantly sweep stuff out of the lungs to the pharynx where they can be spat out or swallowed. An issue with smokers is that the toxicity of the smoke inhibits the activity of these cilia. For chronic lung issues, see your pulmonary specialist for evaluation.
