Be careful: Only if you turn the volume up very loud, especially if it turns on suddenly at a high volume. Sound over 85 decibels for an extended period of time can cause hearing loss.

Very unlikely!: Very unlikely for ear/headphones to rupture normal eardrums. Eardrum damage would require an overpressure (blast) effect which would not be caused by standard ear/headphones. However, ear/headphones, or any source, of significant or prolonged loud noise exposure can cause inner ear nerve ending damage which results in temporary and/or permanent nerve-type hearing loss.
