What surgery: You have a significant iron deficiency anemia. Depending on what surgery you are going to have- there is always a risk of blood loss associated to the surgery- which can make you even more anemic after surgery. If you loss blood significantly, your doctor may need to give you blood transfusion. If your gp has not done any work-up for iron deficiency anemia-then he/she should do it.
