TMJ/TMD: 1. Shingles are not related. 2. The most common musculoskeletal disorder causing orofacial pain is a temporomandibular disorder (tmd). In addition to tmd, musculoskeletal pain in the orofacial area can arise from the cervical spine and those rheumatic and collagen diseases that affect the masticatory system and cervical spine.
