Gastroenteritis: Often, acute mild abdominal distention and diarrhea is due to either bacterial or viral infections of the intestinal tract, which are usually self-limited. This may also be due to irritable bowel syndrome, or food intolerances. Less frequently, serious disorders such as intestinal obstruction or ischemia is responsible. If the symptoms persist, consultation with your doctor is imperative.
