If hitting and screaming at your kids is "abuse" then why do so many of my friends parents do it and my dad and all his friends were raised the same?

Definitions vary: I remember interviewing a mom whose neglected kids were frail ; undernourished.Asking about her thoughts about abuse or neglect, she told me her grandparents chained her to a stake under the porch as a kid, so she knew what abuse was. Her neglect was not intentional and she didn't see it as such. People raised with this may not accept it as abuse.That does not mean it is not.
