See answer : A scarf or face mask will provide some protection, but it is not clear how much. Unlikely to block the penetration of small virus particles but likely helpful in reducing contact or viral load from coughing and sneezing-related sprays and splashes. Most effective prevention is minimizing contact with others, frequent hand-washing and avoiding touching your face, nose, eyes with hands and fingers.

Maybe: Antibiotic ointment will not help against the flu because it has no effect on the virus. Breathing through a scarf, or better, a medical mask, can provide some protection from airborne droplets that contain the virus.
