A member asked:

My 6 month old baby has silent reflux and is on losec (omeprazole) how soon will it take for me to stop the meds and he will grow out of it how can i tell?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Improves with age: The muscles at the end of the esophagus are weaker in babies, and they start to tone up and prevent reflux by 12-18 months of age. Each baby is different in terms of how long they may need to be on a medication. Sometimes, we keep the dosage the same throughout infancy, and as the baby grows, he weans himself off the med. Talk with your baby's doctor regarding the progress. Wish you the best!
