Acidic but dilutable: The substance that comes off of batteries is acidic and harmful but it is easily diluted by adding water. What you inhaled would have caused irritation in the airways but all of the fluids would have neutralized it quickly. The area of the skin probably had more damage but even that is nothing to worry about.
