Dyspnea: Intermittent shortness of breath lasting only minutes is not a usual symptom of significant heart or lung disease. The heart does work harder when you're lying flat however. Shortness of breath could occur when lying flat if you have a larger hiatal hernia or distended abdomen. It's best to have your md check this symptom out.
