Too long to asnwer: Here, but there are some important goals, including safety, strengthening and walking. Hip rehab will include this plus reviewing universal hip precautions, depending on the approach of the hip replacement. Knee replacement will do the same (without hip precautions of course), but will also work to make sure you get full extension of your knee as a knee flexion contracture can be problematic.

Activity progression: Recovery from hip replacement is straight forward. The pain is easily managed with medications and rapidly eases. Most patients can walk with a walker or crutches within hours of the surgery. The muscles in the hip will rapidly regain their function. Specific exercises strengthen the abductor and flexor muscles and can be done at home or with pt. Gait will improve over the next few weeks.
