Can you tell me is intubation always used in general anesthesia?

No: General anesthesia can be conducted with spontaneously breathing patient using an anesthesia mask. Often the oral airways are used, that look anything like a short curved tube or a fancy spoon, that do not pass the vocal cords ( supraglottic airways).
