Rare: Because carpal tunnel is a nerve compression syndrome primary presenting symptoms are numbness, and paresthesias in the median nerve distribution to the thumb, index , long and half the ring fingers. While pain at the volar wrist may be present with the numbness, and weakness of the thenar muscles it is almost never the lone symptom.
