Wrong bug/drug: If you have an infection that's not cleared in 5 days of antibiotics you ; your doctor need to evaluate if: 1. There is an abscess or pocket of pus that needs to be drained 2. You have an infection that requires >5 days to treat (deep bone, heart valve...) 3. You're using the wrong agent for the organism causing the infection 4. You're not getting the drug to the site (dose too low/not absorbg.

Treatment failure: Depending on the type of infection you have, symptoms of an illness that will respond to a particular antibiotic usually start to improve within 3-4 days. If your illness is caused by a virus, antibiotics won't help it. If your infection is bacterial, you may need a different medication. Your doctor can guide you on the next step, so be sure to notify the office.
