Questionable: I realize that a common joint formula is chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate. Tmj/tmd is often a combination of joint, muscle and the teeth not functioning correctly. Supplements may help, but i would not rely upon them for a lot of relief.

Can help: Glucosamine has been shown to help with TMJ symptoms more that ibuprofen. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11409130.

Diagnosis is first: Temporo-mandibular disorder is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. Proper diagnosis is the key for the successful treatment. See an orofacial pain practitioner for a consultation and management.

TMJ: Glucosamine is a vitamin that is sometimes used to help try and prevent joint problems, not just the tmj joints. There is usually no harm in trying this. However, if you have a disc problem it may not help. There are a lot of references online that you can read up on for this. Hope this helps.
