Depends a lot: The choice of type and dose of pain medication depends on many variables: intensity, quality, and cause of the pain, general medical condition, previous use of pain medications, etc. As a rule, we want to use whatever works consistently to allow a good quality of life for the patient, preferably without fluctuation or the need for frequent dosing.
