Pannus: The medical term for an "apron" of fat that hangs down from the lower abdomen is pannus. Central obesity refers to carrying excess weight around the middle. Central obesity confers a greater health risk than "pear shaped" obesity. It's associated with more metabolic abnormalities. I hope you'll use the term pannus clinically. I would regret providing info that might be used for shaming purposes.
