A member asked:

Can anyone tell me is zoloft (sertraline) an agonist or antagonist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

SSRI: Zoloft (sertraline) is a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. It stops the nerve cell from removing the neurotransmitter serotonin from the synapse, thus making more serotonin available to the cell. In theory it temporarily disengages the re-uptake mechanism.
