Minor pinch: Your dentist will place a topical anesthetic (numbing gel) on your gums prior to the injection. You may feel a small pinch as the needle is inserted, then almost immediately, that area will start to numb. Getting a shot in the arm is much more painful.

Pinch then pressure: Local anesthetics like Lidocaine when injected will produce a prick (unless they swab the area with topical anesthetic first) then burning or lot of pressure when the local is injected. You may feel a. Shock sensation if he/ she gets close to a nerve.
