How can you differentiate nph vs. parkinson's disease?

Hx, PE, and LP: If the history and physical exam suggests nph then continuous spinal fluid drainage with pre and post testing of cognition and gait can determine if the patient meets the criteria for nph and will or will not benefit from a vp (ventriculoperitoneal) shunt. The classic triad of pd is a rest tremor, rigidity (stiffness), and bradykinesia (slowness of movement). I hope this helps.

Some ideas: Sometimes this can be difficult. The key symptoms of Parkinsons are resting tremor, slow movements, and rigidity. People with NPH may have trouble rising from a chair, lifting their feet or initiating movement, but they should not have increased muscle tone or a tremor. The MRI of the brain tends to be abnormal for patients with NPH also.
