None to severe: Congenital malaria can affect the baby's size at birth and can increase risk for miscarriage, still born, or preterm. Also if brn with malaria, can become anemic, lethargic, poor feeding.

It can be treated: Congenitally acquired malaria can cause loss of pregnancy, intrauterine growth retardation, prematurity, anemia, congenital parasitemia. It's rare in the usa; <10 cases are reported each year. The last case of congenital p. Malariae infection in the United States was reported in 1992. You should check with your primary care provider or infection disease doctor, it can be easily treated.
