No effect on sperm: There are no studies proving that Lexapro (escitalopram) has a negative effect on sperm. Some antidepressants can decrease libido. Medications similar to Lexapro (escitalopram) may cause problems to the fetus if the pregnant mother takes them.

Sperm DNA: Antidepressants, as a class of drugs, have been shown to possibly effect sperm dna/genetic integrity. No issue with birth defects, only infertility. Only one or two small studies from one center means very little data to support this statement. One must balance quality of life on the drug (better) vs fertility off the drug.
