Direct pressure.: Direct pressure to the venipuncture site post blood draw is the best way to prevent bruising and swelling but is no guarantee. The second important factor, which is beyond your control, is the experience of the person drawing the blood.

Pressure: An experienced venipuncturist who gets into the vein with first try helps. Once needle is out, elevate arm with pressure applied to puncture site. Arnica taken the day before, and several days following may help. Arnica is available at health food stores.
