Serious: The diagnosis is serious, and complete evaluation is important. There are lumpectomies, simple mastectomies, and extended node dissection mastectomies. Get the full plan, and risks and benefits from your surgeon. Breast is soft tissue with generally good tissue planes allowing relatively technically safe and reliable procedures. Bruising, swelling, and some pain are expected and controlled.
