Depends on cause: Voice quality can be genetic, but structural causes can be addressed with ENT evaluation and/or lifestyle changes. Smoking, acid reflux, chronic cough, polyps, vocal cord paralysis and many other ailments can cause vocal cord irritation and voice changes.
