A member asked:

Please help! what is the physiologic significance of arteriosclerosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Arteriosclerosis: The physiologic significance is the obstruction of blood flow by the sclerotic vessels. They also predispose to plaque rupture with acute occlusion of blood vessels and damage to the downstream organ(s). There are other physiologic consequences depending on the organs involved in the decreased blood flow.
