A member asked:

What is placebo therapy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Placebo therapy: The placebo effect is when the person believes the agent they are receiving is effective even if the agent is a placebo or inert substance. The placebo effect accounts for 30% of a positive response in research trials so if the agent is only 30% effective that's no better than chance. One might say placebo is hope or that the power of the mind seems to play a significant role in outcome.
