Why?: Most insurances, including medicaid, do not cover circumcision for cosmetic reasons. Is your son having a medical problem for which a circumcision is indicated-an obstruction, uti's? In that case, it may be covered. If he isn't having a problem, why would you want to put him through a surgery and general anesthesia? There is not a clear medical reason for routine circumcisions.

See below: The following states do not fund medicaid circumcision: arizona, california, colorado, florida, idaho, louisiana, maine, minnesota, mississippi, missouri, montana, nevada, north carolina, north dakota, oregon, south carolina, utah, and washington. On average cost after the first month can top off at $3000 (vs $300 from newborn to 1 month).

No coverage: Mississippi is one of 16 states where medicaid does not coverage circumcision. You can call their office to verify. Because of your son's age as compared to a newborn, circumcision would likely need to be done in a surgical center under anesthesia where total costs would likely be well over $1, 000. Would recommend you talk with your pediatrician about what options are available to you.
