Self-harm: There are many kinds of self-harm, but not all include physical self-injury. Self-harm is a more inclusive category which might also include sabotaging one's own efforts in school or work, or staying in abusive relationships despite clear evidence that this is dangerous and hurtful. Other behaviors might be ones that harm health, like smoking cigarettes or repeatedly getting drunk.

They aren't : The technical term is non-suicidal self-injury and refers to any behavior or action that harms a person without the intention of ending one's life.
