Keyhole Surgery: Keyhole surgery is also called laparoscopic surgery. In this approach the surgery is done using several 0.5-1cm incisions. Specialized instruments and a small thin camera are passed through the incision sites during the surgery. Compared to regular open surgery the laparoscopic surgery is associated with less pain, faster recovery, and minimal scarring.

Foramen opened: One of the more common uses for the term "keyhole surgery" is in posterior spinal surgery in the neck. In the surgery, a small opening is made in the back of the spine, this allows decompression of a nerve or multiple nerves in the spine and is called a keyhole laminotomy with a foraminotomy. This can be done open or in a minimally invasive fashion.
