Need diagnosis...: The possible causes of chronic cough include bronchospasm from any etiology (ex. Asthma, chronic bronchitis, med side-effect, etc.), gerd, post-nasal drip or a combination of factors. Each of these has a different treatment so treatment depends on getting a diagnosis. You may need to see a lung specialist for a diagnostic work-up followed by treatment. If you smoke, you need to quit!
