Bloody nose: First thing is to apply compression followed by ice over a bandage or towel; if the bleeding continues go the er immediately as their may be a "bleeder" that may need coagulation.

Pressure: Pinch the nostrils shut, holding pressure on the soft middle part of the nose and lean forward slightly to prevent blood from drainage into the throat. Hold this position for 5 minutes non-stop. Rarely will a bloody nose persist after this. Most people slip up by not holding it long enough.

First : Tilt the person's head forward, so Blood doesn't pool in the back of the throat, then just apply pressure from both sides of the nostrils and hold. Hold it for 5 minutes or so and see if the bleeding has stopped. If not repeat it for five or ten minutes more. If it hasn't stopped after that or the person is choking on blood backing up into the throat get to the nearest ER but don't let go.
