Sometimes: Sometimes the bone around lower molars is then enough, or the tooth periodontally involved enough, to get adequate anesthesia with local intilrtration. Articaine works best for infiltration. If the tooth is surrounded by think bone, or is impacted, a nerve block anesthetic will be required.
