Can you give me some suggestions on supporting girlfriend through double mastectomy?

Dr. Creighton Wright answered

Specializes in surgery

Know diagnosis: Support the best, effective therapy. Help with decisions regarding cosmetic decisions and risks of extensive surgical reconstructions, and timing to enhance "cure" and followup. Breasts are mostly superficial fat and fascia -- not heart and brain and sensitivity and love.

Be there: Go to office visits and help take notes and ask questions. Help her after surgery with meals, errands. Be loving and positive. Do something fun so she can take her mind off the overwhelming process. Encourage her to attend a breast cancer support group.
