A member asked:

Hi doctors, was just wondering what is actually going on in your body when you "see stars" ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Retinal signals: The retina only has nerves for vision. When it is stimulated for instance by the eye being struck, the retina is stimulated and "thinks" it is seeing light. That is the perception of stars in that circumstance. Other stimuli can also do this but the only response from the retina possible is light.
