A member asked:

What would be the most likely cause for pancreatitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gallstones, alcohol: In the U.S. The most common causes of acute pancreatitis are gallstones or alcohol. Other common causes are high blood lipids or certain medications. I always tell my patients that sometimes alcohol even in reasonable amounts can cause pancreatitis. It doesn't always have to occur in alcoholics.
