Routine culture: A routine culture and sensitivity test (no special name and done by all labs) of either semen or expressed prostatic secretions will identify the common bacteria ( that cause infection. If checking for chlamydia, a polymerase chain reaction assay (pcr) is often used. Important to realize that many men have leukocytes in semen fluid of no or uncertain clinical significance.
