No: Arthritis usually first manifests as pain and swelling of joints...Not necessarily the whole finger. A number of conditions other than arthritis can cause finger swelling, most of which are nonspecific and not to worry about.

Most of the time!: Unless you have edema, usually yes. See your pcp, who may refer you to a rheumatologist.
