Genital Herpes: Is usually caused by type ii of the herpes simplex viruses. The virus that causes cold sores is usually herpes simplex i. You can get ii in your oral area, as well as i in your genital area. You likely have antibodies against the type i virus because you already have the cold sore virus so it would probably be difficult to give yourself the virus in another location via oral sex.
