Depends: The best way to stop Methadone is a slow taper. Depending on starting dose this could take weeks/months. If stopping low dose Methadone (10-20 mg per day) then tramadol 50-100 mg every 6-8 hours might alleviate some withdrawal symptoms.

Possibly: Methadone is best tapered over the course of weeks/months depending on starting dose. I use Methadone to taper patients from other opioids (oxycontin, morphine, erc). Once the dose gets to 10-20 mg per day tramadol 50-100 mg three times a day can help with withdrawal symptoms. Tramadol potency is 1/6000 of morphine so it is a weak agonist. Some pts feel tramadol withdrawal is worse than methadon.
