Cerebral suppression: Latest theory is a posterior to anterior spreading depression of nerve activity affecting the occipital cortex of brain with resultant scintillating and fortification scotomata, and loss of visual fields transiently until the activity subsides. This seems mediated by sensitivity of brain glutamate to either external or internal stimuli.
